Znail Valley is a Bay Area independent picture book series created by Santa Clara author Aria de Clea for ages 4–8 and PreK–Grade 2. Across eight published stories, a recurring community of bugs meets friendship, fear, harsh self-talk, listening, perspective, reliability, inspiration and tangled feelings with humor, curiosity and very wild ideas.
The short version
A funny bug world built around things children already know.
In Znail Valley, feelings and ideas do not stay hidden in a paragraph. They become part of the adventure: a shadow to investigate, words that echo back, inspiration that glows, or a web where tangled feelings can be noticed and named.
The stories begin with recognizable kid-sized moments, then let the characters notice, wonder, try, get something wrong, revise and discover. Adults may recognize the larger emotional or social idea. Children get a story first.
That layered approach is the heart of the series: playful enough for another read, thoughtful enough to keep unfolding after the book closes.

A curious drumshell snail who uses they/them pronouns and often finds that noticing changes the shape of a problem.
Betsy
The Itsy Betsy spider: observer, hypothesis-maker, keeper of many notebooks and builder of a mysterious mechanical eighth leg.

A sound-loving bat with thick glasses who discovers that listening and using a voice can both take courage.
